Sourcing and Creating Creature Vocals

I worked on a good number of creature vocals at Wonderstorm. Creature vocals can be some of the most challenging things to make and require a lot of creativity.

It isn't simply about throwing in some samples of animal sounds together or thinking dehumanizer will save you. That will leave you with pretty limited results. You have to carefully blend a lot of parts to make it sound like one set of vocal chords emitting from a single voice box, big or small. You may have to convey a bunch of emotions as well (fear, aggression, pain).

Here's a list of raw sounds I processed for the Queen Crawler Boss.

-Spaghetti Squeezes
-Wet Towels

-Dog Snarls
-Elephants
-Plunger
-Lips fluttering
-Wood creaking
-More wood knocking (I like to use this for a lot of various sounds)
-Metal Creaking

-Tires Squealing (scraping a hot water bottle)
-Rubber squeaking against glass
-Human Vocal Samples
-Door Hinge Swinging

I used this for some car sounds and creature vocals

And here is how that sounds. One subtle thing I like to do is add an impact-type sound at the beginning to add a bit of intensity
